I’ve been asked a few times to recommend manga for people, so this is my Master List for Recs! The basic rules are that I have to have read at least 3 available volumes before recommending it, unless there are less than that available in English. I’ve included any major content warnings, but I will miss some stuff. I’ve differentiated between Romance, BL/GL and Queer Positive mostly because of vibes and the fact that I figured if you wanted to pick out Queer Stories then it was easier to jump to that section than scoot through romance! And also I didn’t want people to think that just because I’m recommending a BL/GL series doesn’t mean I think it’s good Gay Rep! But as they say, I support Gay Wrongs AS WELL as Gay Rights.
If the series has a * it means it’s available on the Shonen Jump App/Viz Media Website as part of their subscription service.
The reason they censor cursing on The Lower Decks is because the show would be too powerful if they could say fuck. It would be the best Star Trek series to date, maybe the best tv show in history and they can’t have that. What would they build a franchise on??
the types of media i like can be placed in one of two categories:
type 1: oh my god this thing is amazing, i love it, i could go on hours long rants about how well executed it was. it has its faults but overall it’s excellent.
type 2: i didn’t say it was good, i said i liked it
Tragedy! You set out to read a negative review of a piece of media you dislike, only to find that the critic is being completely unfair to it and making a bunch of bad, unsupportable arguments.
Me: “Disney live action remakes are soulless cash grabs that deny the original writers and artists the credit they deserve” Some fucking chud: “Exactly! They never should have started wokeifying all their movies” Me:
I know ppl go wild for king/knight and king/jester relationship dynamics on this website but I do want to pitch: knight/jester. Loyal warrior who’s not been known to suffer fools and the fool who wants nothing more than to be suffered by them, working under the same leige. Think about it and get back to me
im trying to fill out the survey you linked on the old women yuri post because someone i follow reblogged it but i have no idea what/where to put because i am not familiar with the source! i dont even know what it is called but i wanna help :(
The series is “Hanamonogatari” by Schwinn, and it would go under the first Catagory option: “What non-licensed *MANGA FROM JAPAN* would you like us to license and publish in English?” =)
This is the Survey Link again, and I’ll try to remember to update it when the June Survey gets sent out too =)
I think the Evil Media Bias Against Platonic Relationships is one of those things tumblr loves to get worked up about despite, like. simply not being real.
“men in media are never allowed to have their closest, most meaningful relationship be a platonic friendship with another man!” I’m sorry but I am not convinced that you’ve ever consumed media
“okay maybe buddy comedies exist or whatever, but this is a problem in fandom spaces–” It’s not a “problem” that gay people on the internet like to draw gay kissing. Hope this helps <3
me, shaking the people in the notes by the shoulders: Fandom is an extremely niche subculture. Gay shipping is a niche of that niche. 99% of the population does not engage with it. You do not have to walk into the Gay Romance And Erotica Club and complain about the gay romance and erotica
the people in the notes: I’m being forced at gunpoint actually
My one problem with Star Trek is that no one is ever consuming contemporary media. As in media that’s contemporary for their time period. Everyone is always reading old novels and practicing classical music. They study Klingon Opera or read old Cardassian mysteries. No one is ever like really into obscure Klingon Nightcore. Nobody is reading shitty Ferengi pulp novels. There’s no kids media of any kind. Where is space Sesame Street or junior novels about gaining superpowers from a warp core accident? What about comic books? Nobody is playing crappy indy holodeck games. It’s always some recreation of a historical battle or just lounging in a mud pit at some alien spa. Someone give me angsty Bajoran protest music. I need some rebellious teens producing the worst most cacophonous death metal techno that they recorded in an empty cargo bay. I need contemporary pop culture in Star Trek.
the holodeck would have some of the shittiest mascot horror games
